Turns out your cat's begging isn't always misguided. Some human foods are actually fair game. Plain cooked chicken, turkey, or fish (boneless, unseasoned) make great occasional treats. Small bits of cooked egg, a little plain rice, or a nibble of steamed carrot or pumpkin are safe too, and some cats genuinely love them.
But the "absolutely not" list is where things get serious. Onions, garlic, and chives, even in powder form, can damage a cat's red blood cells. Grapes and raisins are linked to kidney failure. Chocolate and anything with caffeine can be toxic to their hearts and nervous systems. Xylitol, a sweetener hiding in gum and peanut butter, is dangerous even in tiny amounts. And dairy? Most adult cats are lactose intolerant, so that "cats love milk" trope is mostly a myth wrapped in a stomachache.
Basically: a little plain meat, yes. Anything from the onion family or your dessert plate, absolutely not.
